Helping Us

The Australian Government has cancelled all funding for the Environmental Defenders Office of Northern Queensland, based in Cairns, bang smack in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. We provide free public interest environmental legal advice and education for the community, helping to protect the beautiful Northern Queensland tropics, including the Great Barrier Reef, which is under threat of listing as a 'World Heritage Area in Danger' by the United Nations.

Massive mining, shipping, coastal development and dredging proposals threaten this magical part of the world. Please help us protect it. Without your help, we cannot continue to provide protective environmental legal services. Make this New Year's Resolution one that will really count. Donate $1,000 (tax deductible), and you will be officially listed as one of the '500 Heroes of the North' - lawyers, law firms, individuals, businesses, community groups, or schools that believe in access to social justice, and responsible protection of the environment.

OK - How can I help EDO NQ?

You can help in many ways - by becoming a member, by donating, volunteering, recruiting supporters and communicating to your elected representatives just how important it is that the community have ready access to the free environmental legal advice and education provided by EDO NQ - your specialist environmental law Community Legal Centre.

You can donate conveniently right now using Givenow, and - to keep up to date with environmental news and issues - sign up to EDO NQ on Facebook:

Thanks for your generous support! Give whatever you can, from $2 to $2M+.

We look forward to seeing your smiling face on a (healing) Great Barrier Reef soon!
